Blue Origin Retires New Shepard Capsule After Successful NS-35 Payload Flight

The capsule now moves to ground verification use before eventual public display.

Overview

  • NS-35 launched Sept. 19 from West Texas, marking New Shepard’s 35th flight and 15th dedicated payload mission.
  • The uncrewed flight carried more than 40 research and student payloads, including 24 NASA TechRise experiments and hardware from the University of Florida, Carthage College, Ecoatoms, and Teledyne.
  • Blue Origin’s Club for the Future sent thousands of postcards that will be returned to creators stamped “Flown to Space.”
  • The vehicle reached roughly 105 kilometers; the booster executed a powered landing and the capsule touched down under parachutes about 10 minutes after liftoff.
  • RSS H. G. Wells retires after 12 missions since 2017, then supports non-flight testing before permanent display at a site yet to be determined.
