Overview
- Sony Pictures Classics began a limited U.S. run on Oct. 17 with a nationwide expansion set for Oct. 24, and the film is not streaming.
- At the BFI London Film Festival, Richard Linklater said he became a “nagging” director to strip away Ethan Hawke’s usual mannerisms as the actor used prosthetics, false teeth and staging tricks to appear much shorter.
- Set largely inside Sardi’s on the 1943 opening night of Oklahoma!, the film concentrates on Lorenz Hart’s turbulent evening without leaving its tightly focused environment.
- The production built a detailed Sardi’s replica in a Dublin studio and completed principal photography in about 15 days, with cast research at the real New York institution informing performances.
- Linklater also updated that his long-term Merrily We Roll Along project has filmed three of nine planned sections.
