Blue Line Shuts Down for 12 Days as Metro Transit Begins Major Overhaul

The shutdown launches Metro Transit’s $80.2 million program to renew Blue Line infrastructure.

Overview

  • Service on the entire Blue Line stops at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, with replacement buses running through Saturday, Oct. 4.
  • Buses will arrive every 8 to 15 minutes, yet trips will be substantially longer, with the Target FieldMall of America ride doubling from about 40 minutes to roughly 80.
  • There is no Blue or Green Line service between U.S. Bank and Target Field stations during the closure, and the Green Line serves only U.S. Bank Stadium for transfers or eastbound trips.
  • Crews are replacing worn track along the corridor and several switches near Cedar-Riverside, power-washing stations, and repairing broken glass.
  • Metro Transit is staffing boarding areas and buses with TRIP agents and advising riders to use the app or alternate routes, with longer closures planned next summer for signal upgrades and again in 2027.
