Blue Line Closure Begins Tonight for 12 Days of Track Replacement

Metro Transit begins Phase 1 of an $80 million restoration focused on rail, signal and station upgrades.

Overview

  • From 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22 until the morning of Saturday, Oct. 4, Blue Line trains will not operate and replacement buses will cover the full corridor.
  • Buses will run every 8 to 15 minutes with trips taking significantly longer, with a Target Field–to–Mall of America ride expected to roughly double from about 40 minutes to about 80 minutes.
  • There will be no service on Blue or Green lines between U.S. Bank Stadium and Target Field during the shutdown, and the Green Line will serve only U.S. Bank Stadium for transfers.
  • Crews will replace worn track along the entire line, install new switches in the Cedar-Riverside area and complete station cleaning and repairs.
  • Metro Transit will staff boarding areas and deploy TRIP agents on buses to assist and check fares, encourages mobile fare purchase and Transit app use for feedback, and warns of longer closures planned next summer and in 2027.
