Overview
- Friday’s Hoy No Circula bars cars with blue engomado, plates ending in 9 or 0 and holograms 1 or 2 from 05:00 to 22:00
- Vehicles displaying holograms 00 and 0, electric and hybrid cars, public transport and authorized service vehicles are exempt from the ban
- Since July 1 the harmonized program has covered all 16 Mexico City boroughs, 18 Estado de México municipalities and adjacent states including Hidalgo and Puebla
- Drivers who flout the restriction face fines of 20–30 UMAs (approximately 2,075–3,113 MXN), plate removal and potential impoundment
- Air-quality monitors have recorded unhealthy readings without prompting activation of a ‘Doble Hoy No Circula’ contingency
