Springer returns to lead off against the Rangers after homering in a Triple-A rehab start following his concussion.

Overview

  • George Springer was activated from the seven-day concussion injured list on August 16 and is available for today’s game against the Texas Rangers.
  • Outfielder Joey Loperfido was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo in the corresponding roster move to make room for Springer.
  • Springer homered in his recent rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo after clearing MLB’s concussion protocol tests.
  • Manager John Schneider indicated Springer will fill the leadoff spot or designated hitter role to leverage his .291/.383/.506 line and 18 homers.
  • Loperfido, who batted .358/.409/.506 over 89 plate appearances, is expected back on the major league roster when it expands on September 1 or if an injury creates an opening.
