Blue Jackets land top Devils defenseman Severson in sign-and-trade, ink him to 8-year deal

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson in a sign-and-trade.
Severson signed an eight-year, $50 million contract with the Blue Jackets.
The Devils received Columbus's third-round pick in the 2023 draft in exchange for Severson.
Severson was expected to be one of the top free agent defensemen available this offseason.
Severson joins Zach Werenski, Ivan Provorov, and David Jiricek on the revamped Blue Jackets defense.
