Blue Jackets Hire Laurence Gilman as Vice President of Hockey Operations

Columbus turns to the longtime NHL executive to bolster hockey-operations capacity after a late-December front-office departure.

Overview

  • The team announced Tuesday that veteran executive Laurence Gilman was named vice president of hockey operations to assist president and GM Don Waddell.
  • The move fills the opening created when assistant GM Josh Flynn left for the Buffalo Sabres in late December.
  • Waddell described Gilman as extremely knowledgeable about team and league operations and a strong addition to the staff.
  • Gilman’s career spans the Winnipeg/Phoenix franchise and the Vancouver Canucks, where his tenure included five straight division titles, two Presidents’ Trophies and a 2011 Stanley Cup Final appearance.
  • He most recently worked in the Maple Leafs organization as assistant GM (2018–2022) and Marlies senior vice president of hockey operations (2022–2024), and Columbus is 18-16-7, six points out of a wild-card spot.
