Overview
- Private and other off‑street car‑park operators, including hospitals and supermarkets, may require payment from Blue Badge holders, so checking local terms and signage is essential.
- Parking remains prohibited at all times in specified locations regardless of a badge, such as pedestrian crossings with zig‑zags, clearways, bus stop clearways and school keep‑clear markings.
- In England, parking on single or double yellow lines is permitted for up to three hours only if a blue parking clock shows the time of arrival and the driver observes the one‑hour no‑return rule.
- Badges must be displayed correctly and obstructive or unsafe parking can result in a Penalty Charge Notice, towing, prosecution or withdrawal of the badge.
- The scheme is not fully applicable in the City of Westminster, the City of London, Kensington and Chelsea and part of Camden, and TfL Red Routes operate stricter controls.
