BLOs Will Collect Documents From Homes for Delhi SIR Notices

The change aims to ease voters’ burden and speed verification so notices can be disposed before the Election Commission’s revised final roll date.

Overview

  • The Election Commission approved a revised Special Intensive Revision schedule that extends filing of claims and objections to October 30, requires disposal of notices and claims by November 30, and sets the final electoral roll publication for December 4.
  • Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer ordered Booth Level Officers to visit homes of electors who received SIR notices, collect supporting documents and upload them to ECINet for ERO decisions so electors need not come to ERO/AERO offices.
  • Hearings will be held only in exceptional cases as decided by the Electoral Registration Officer and are to be conducted online where possible, with an adult family member allowed to represent an elector if needed.
  • Special enrolment camps for colleges and universities will run on September 29–30 to register young and first‑time voters using Form‑6 and to provide other electoral services.
  • Officials say the home‑visit policy responds to large-scale data mismatches—draft rolls list over 97 lakh voters and more than 33 lakh notices were issued—and seeks to protect due process because no name can be removed without a hearing and an appealable order.
