Blister Flareup Halts Nick Lodolo’s Rehab Start, Return Uncertain

The setback clouds his return to a staff already missing Hunter Greene.

Overview

  • Lodolo, who left a Single-A rehab start Thursday, threw 40 pitches before a blister on his left index finger forced him out short of the planned 60–65.
  • After arriving in Texas on Friday, he said the blister resurfaced on his 40th pitch and he will rest a few days before playing catch, with no new timetable set.
  • The Reds had aimed for him to rejoin the rotation during the April 6–9 series in Miami, a plan now in doubt after the flareup.
  • Cincinnati is already down ace Hunter Greene until July following elbow surgery, so the club is leaning on Rhett Lowder, Chase Burns, and Brandon Williamson while using Jose Franco in long relief.
  • This is the third straight season blisters have sidelined Lodolo, with the issue flaring on the pad of his index finger on sliders, despite a strong 2025 that included 156 2/3 innings and a 3.33 ERA.
