Blaze at Union Derivan Plant in Zaragoza Prompts Level 1 Emergency

Under activated level 1 protocols with road closures, siren alerts, firefighter deployment, crews are working to extinguish hotspots at the Union Derivan plant.

Overview

  • A pre-dawn fire broke out at the Union Derivan chemical plant in Zuera, Zaragoza, on July 28, triggering Aragón’s level 1 Exterior Emergency Plan.
  • Provincial and municipal firefighters from the Diputación de Zaragoza and the Zaragoza City Council have been deployed to control the fire and minimize chemical risks.
  • The A-124 road between kilometer points 0.600 and 4 has been closed, restricting access to the El Campillo industrial park as a precautionary measure.
  • Warning sirens have been activated and residents of Zuera, San Mateo de Gállego, El Saso and El Llano are under confinement orders for their safety.
  • Authorities report no injuries to date and the level 1 emergency remains in effect as crews continue to contain residual hotspots.
