Blast Injures Two at Under-Construction Bengaluru Building

Forensic tests are under way to determine whether a battery accident or an improvised explosive device caused the explosion.

Overview

  • The blast in Pulakeshinagar occurred on Tuesday and injured two men who were taken to Bowring/Victoria hospitals for treatment.
  • One of the injured, identified as Suraj, suffered the loss of fingers and shrapnel wounds while the other, Allauddin, suffered a facial eye-area injury.
  • Investigators recovered a bag, small wires and a battery-like object at the scene and have sent samples to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.
  • Local police opened a suo motu case and involved specialised units including the bomb squad, Anti-Terrorism Squad, Internal Security Division and notified central agencies as a precaution.
  • Officials have urged the public not to speculate until FSL results are released and said the forensic findings will be key to deciding whether the cause was an IED, a chemical reaction or an accidental battery failure.
