Blackwall and Silvertown Tunnels Reopen After Major Greenwich Industrial Fire

  • Northbound traffic closures hit the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels and the Blackwall Tunnel Approach; the tunnels reopened this morning while local road restrictions remain.
  • Crews used a 32-metre turntable ladder, with firefighters from East Greenwich, Greenwich, Deptford, Poplar and nearby stations attending.
  • No injuries were reported and two people were evacuated, several bus routes were diverted and travel warnings were issued locally, and the cause is under investigation.
