Overview
- U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $731 million in net inflows on Sept. 3, with BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) accounting for about $454 million of that total.
- On-chain and flow trackers show large client purchases routed through IBIT, including a 1,495 BTC trade worth about $115 million and a separate single purchase near $454 million.
- IBIT now holds roughly $60–63 billion in assets, giving it superior liquidity and tight spreads that have drawn an outsized share of new ETF capital, estimated at about 60–75% of recent flows.
- BlackRock says it buys Bitcoin only to meet client demand for IBIT and uses Coinbase Prime for custody, while third-party trackers such as Arkham have made institutional accumulation more visible.
- The inflow has helped lift Bitcoin into the high $70,000s and briefly above $82,000, but on-chain signals and recent macro moves warn the rally could cool and that IBIT’s concentration creates a risk of amplified market stress if redemptions or operational problems occur.
