Overview
- U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about $731 million in net inflows on Sept. 3, with roughly $454 million going into BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust, according to aggregated flow data.
- IBIT is the largest U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF with roughly $59–63 billion in assets under management and has captured the majority share of new ETF capital in recent months.
- Reported transactions routed through IBIT include a $453.96 million single buy and a separate purchase of 1,495 BTC worth about $115 million, and BlackRock says it only buys Bitcoin to meet client demand.
- BlackRock holds IBIT’s underlying Bitcoin in Coinbase Prime custody and on-chain trackers have made large institutional accumulation visible, which both supports price and concentrates counterparty exposure.
- The shift from futures and trust vehicles to regulated spot ETFs since January 2024 has made it easier for pensions and wealth managers to add Bitcoin, creating steady demand but also drawing scrutiny over a single fund’s outsized market role.
