Blackpool Named Britain's Luckiest Postcode District

The Bingotastic analysis compared People's Postcode Lottery wins against active postcodes to remove size bias when ranking areas by wins per 1,000 postcodes.

Overview

  • The Bingotastic ranking, published on Monday, found FY Blackpool recorded 357 wins across 7,392 active postcodes, giving it a rate of 48.30 wins per 1,000 postcodes.
  • Western Central London (WC) was the least lucky area with 12 wins across 2,544 postcodes, a rate of 4.72 per 1,000, and six of the ten lowest-ranked districts are in London.
  • The Outer Hebrides placed second by rate with 47 wins across 980 postcodes (47.96 per 1,000) and Sheffield ranked third by rate while recording the largest total wins at 1,547.
  • Bingotastic founder Andrew Palmer emphasised the human stories behind the figures and cited winners who received prizes at difficult times, including a woman who learned of a £144,000 win the day after major surgery.
  • Because the study normalises results by active postcodes, smaller areas can top the list by rate despite lower absolute win totals, which is why the report also compares win rates with local service metrics such as GP surgeries per 1,000 postcodes.
