The blaze ignited late Sunday morning near Black Rock Campground in Joshua Tree National Park, just south of Yucca Valley, with first reports around 10:30 a.m. Black Rock Campground was evacuated and closed to the public to support firefighting operations. Incident command reported the fire was fully surrounded by retardant and its forward spread was stopped just before 2 p.m. Cal Fire estimated the burn area at about 66 acres as of early afternoon. The cause remains under investigation, and no injuries have been reported.
