Overview
- A 12-hour shutdown called by CorCom and KCP Apunba began at 6 am on Thursday and brought markets, schools and most public transport in Imphal to a near standstill.
- The groups said the bandh marked ‘Black Day’ to protest Manipur’s 1949 merger with India and exempted essential services such as medical care, water supply and news media from the order.
- A joint CRPF–Manipur Police team recovered the severed head of Ajinbou Ringkamai near Makui Ashang village and deposited it at JNIMS following a 48-hour ultimatum from the Joint Tribes Council Manipur.
- Ringkamai’s torso had been found after an October 9–10 wave of violence in the hill districts and officials say post-mortem and formal handover of the remains to the family are still pending.
- The shutdown and the recovery of mutilated remains have increased pressure for a clear investigation and added to tensions between valley and hill communities in a state with long-running ethnic faultlines.
