Black Culture Festivals Converge on Rio for Consciência Negra as FLUP Opens and New Events Launch

  • FLUP’s 15th edition is underway at the Viaduto de Madureira from November 19–23 and 27–30, honoring Conceição Evaristo with concerts by Jonathan Ferr, Mano Brown and Majur, plus discussions with Brazilian and international guests.
  • The festival features an exhibition on Frantz Fanon and the Códigos Negros intervention created with Olabi, which uses artificial intelligence and other image and video generation tools.
  • The inaugural FLIIR runs November 20–23 at CUFA Madureira, curated by Thais Marinho, paying tribute to Evaristo and the Nardal sisters, with SLAM BR poetry finals hosted at nearby Zê Êne.
  • Magé’s first FLAM takes place November 20–22 at Praça Montese with literary shows, workshops, debates and community contests, organized under SECULTE’s public call and financed via the federal Aldir Blanc policy.
