Black Bear Savagely Mauls Arizona Man During Morning Coffee in Rare, Unprovoked Attack

A 66-year-old Arizona man was fatally attacked by a black bear while drinking coffee outside his cabin.
The bear attacked him unprovoked, dragged him away and did not release him until shot by a neighbor.
The attack was highly unusual and officials cannot find an obvious reason for the bear's aggression.
Only one other fatal black bear attack has occurred in Arizona since the 1980s.
Though black bears inhabit Arizona, they usually avoid contact with humans.
