BKA Report Puts Migrant Share of 2024 Suspects at 8.8% as Minister Plans Returns

Police attribute the slight decline mainly to April’s cannabis decriminalization.

Overview

  • The BKA logged 172,203 migrant suspects out of more than 1.9 million total suspects linked to about 3.1 million recorded crimes, with 331,308 cases involving at least one migrant suspect.
  • Media calculations cited across outlets reported markedly higher suspect rates per 100,000 for Syrians (1,740) and Afghans (1,722) than for Germans (163), with Ukrainians underrepresented relative to their refugee share.
  • Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said preparations are underway for deportations to Afghanistan and Syria to remove offenders and security threats.
  • The report notes increases in violent and homicide offenses involving migrant suspects, a roughly 10% rise to 912 migrant-linked suspects in organized crime, and that nearly one third of organized-crime probes involve migrants.
  • Migrants are also frequently victims, with 70,051 recorded in 2024, while over half of migrant suspects were under 30, more than three quarters were male, and about one third were repeat suspects; Maghreb nationals were strongly overrepresented.
