BJP Walks Out of Himachal Assembly Over Job Tally as CM Sukhu Defends Numbers

The chief minister cited department-wise hiring alongside new posts, pledging to meet manifesto targets within five years.

Overview

  • Opposition leaders challenged a discrepancy between a previous figure of 34,980 jobs and the chief minister’s 15 August claim of 23,191, alleging the House was misled.
  • Officials later said the 34,980 figure covered government and private placements, whereas 23,191 referred only to government jobs.
  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu detailed 5,960 posts created and 1,783 dormant posts abolished, with 7,000 hires in Education, 5,000 pump operators, 1,100 nurses and 2,000 Van Mitras.
  • He added that constable exam results are out and appointments for 6,200 aayas and 6,000 NTT candidates will follow soon, with results awaited for 200 doctors’ posts.
  • The Speaker said the BJP protest would not go on record, and the government said recruits via HPPSC and the Staff Selection Commission will be regularised after two years with “contract” retitled “trainee” by court order.
