Overview

  • Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the BJP will elect a new national president by mid-March 2025.
  • The delay in the election process was attributed to the Delhi Assembly elections and incomplete state unit elections.
  • As per the BJP's constitution, at least 50% of state units must elect their presidents before the national president can be chosen.
  • Currently, elections in 12 out of 36 state units have been completed, requiring at least six more to meet the constitutional threshold.
  • Outgoing BJP President JP Nadda, who has held the position since 2020, led the party to victories in 16 state elections and a third consecutive Lok Sabha win.
