Overview
- Media reports say the BJP has organised a special event for Advani’s 99th birthday on Sunday that will include a havan at the party’s New Delhi headquarters.
- Hindustan Times and other outlets report that party president Nitin Nabin will preside over the function and that senior BJP leaders who long worked with Advani are expected to attend.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reported to be likely to call on Advani during the birthday observance, but those details are described by news outlets as expected rather than formally confirmed.
- Advani’s long public career underpins the ceremony: he joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, served as BJP president several times, was Union home minister (1998–2004) and deputy prime minister (2002–2004), and is a Bharat Ratna recipient.
- Coverage varies on some details, with one outlet reporting a wider programme including speeches and a video tribute, and all accounts noting that reporting so far relies on unnamed sources which leaves exact guest lists and formal confirmations pending.
