BJP Nominates Rekha Sharma for Haryana Rajya Sabha By-Election

The former National Commission for Women chief is among three candidates announced by the BJP for the December 20 bypolls.

Rekha Sharma, former chairperson of the National Commission for Women, has been nominated by the BJP for the Rajya Sabha by-election in Haryana.
The bypoll was necessitated after Krishan Lal Panwar vacated the seat to contest and win a Haryana Assembly seat in October; he now serves as Panchayati Raj minister in the state government.
Sharma's nomination surprised many, as speculation suggested the BJP might choose a Scheduled Caste leader or senior party figures for the seat.
The BJP also announced candidates for Rajya Sabha bypolls in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, with Ryaga Krishnaiah and Sujeet Kumar representing the party in those states.
The bypolls, scheduled for December 20, will fill six vacant Rajya Sabha seats, with results to be declared the same day.
