Overview
- Final ward tallies after limited repolling show the BJP with about 4,182 wards, the Congress with about 3,619 and Independents with 2,273, while the BJP’s statewide vote share leads the Congress by roughly 0.94 percentage points.
- Technical problems forced repolls in nine wards, which the Congress won six of, and those results were declared on September 16–17 and folded into the final counts.
- Most mayoral and chairperson elections will be held by indirect vote under the State Election Commission’s schedule on September 21–22, with four large bodies given a later timetable because of repolls.
- Several mayoral contests turned uncontested after withdrawals, including BJP claims of 25 unopposed wins and the BJP becoming the sole candidate in Bharatpur after an Independent withdrew, a move the Congress says followed intimidation.
- Post-result bargaining has intensified with the BJP and Congress courting Independents, senior Congress leaders alleging money offers and misuse of administration and local incidents such as FIRs and protests making board formation fluid; control of municipal bodies will shape local services and political momentum ahead of the 2028 state polls.
