BJP Defends PPP for Andhra Medical Colleges, Rejects Privatisation Charge

Party officials said quotas plus central funding protect public access.

Overview

  • At a Nov. 11 press conference, BJP spokesperson Sadineni Yamini Sarma said the Public–Private Partnership model is a collaboration rather than privatisation.
  • She stated that land, hospitals and services remain with the government, with private partners responsible for equipment and maintenance.
  • She said beneficiaries would continue to receive free care with 70% of hospital beds reserved for general patients.
  • She added that half of 1,500 MBBS seats and 240 PG seats would stay under government control and that the Centre would bear 80% of project costs.
  • BJP representatives accused the previous YSRCP government of misinformation and mismanagement, citing incomplete colleges and the Rushikonda project, and said the NDA is funding completion.
