Opposition leaders allege coercion using state machinery to engineer withdrawals.

Overview

  • State BJP chief Ravindra Chavan said 100 councillors and three municipal council presidents from the party were elected unopposed after the withdrawal deadline.
  • Among uncontested winners are Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s cousin Alhad Kaloti, Minister Girish Mahajan’s wife Sadhana Mahajan, and Minister Jaykumar Rawal’s mother Nayan Kuwar Rawal, with rival nominations withdrawn or rejected.
  • Opposition leaders from Congress, NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) accused the ruling alliance of using money, police pressure and intimidation to force withdrawals.
