Bishop of Córdoba Decries Violence Against Women at Fuensanta Feast

The address linked Marian devotion with a call for peace and protection of women.

Overview

  • At the Sept. 8 solemn mass in the Fuensanta sanctuary, Bishop Jesús Fernández urged action against abuse of women, cited high incidence in the region, and lamented the wars in Ukraine and Gaza while calling for solidarity.
  • During the weekend liturgies, the city formally presented its pendón to the Virgin, a banner that will be kept in the camarín and used in future solemn celebrations after receiving the bishop’s blessing.
  • On Sept. 7 the patroness returned from the Mezquita‑Catedral to her sanctuary in a nighttime procession led by capataz Fernando Chiachío, accompanied by Banda Maestro Tejera and Caído y Fuensanta, arriving around 23:45.
  • The procession highlighted Córdoba’s artistry and heritage, with the coronation presea, a red velvet mantle, and a recently crafted paso featuring work by Emilio León, Antonio Bernal and Francisco Mira.
  • The Sept. 6 traslado to the Cathedral proceeded in silence with rosary recitation and strong youth participation, and the novena at the shrine runs Sept. 8–16 with children’s presentations and parish activities.
