Bisalpur and Navnera Dams Reach Capacity in July, Prompting Gate Openings

The releases maintain reservoir levels to support water security for nearly 10 million residents.

Overview

  • On July 24, Gate No. 10 of the 315.5 RL-metre Bisalpur Dam was raised one metre to release 6,000 cusecs into the Banas River after the reservoir hit its maximum permissible level.
  • This marks the first July filling of Bisalpur since its commissioning in 2000 and the eighth overall gate operation at the dam.
  • Simultaneously, Navnera Dam reached its full level at 214 RL metres and opened Gates 11, 12 and 13 to discharge around 600 cusecs for groundwater recharge under the Ram Jal Setu Link Project.
  • Uniara-Deoli MLA Rajendra Gurjar and Tonk District Collector Kalpana Agrawal conducted a ceremonial puja of the SCADA system before activating the Bisalpur floodgate control.
  • The early monsoon surges have secured drinking and irrigation supplies for Jaipur, Ajmer and Tonk districts to last through two summer seasons.
