Overview
- Between July 14 and 15, BIS Vijayawada raided Flipkart, Meesho, E-Kart and Amazon warehouses in Krishna and NTR districts, confiscating uncertified items across more than 25 product categories.
- Seized goods—including electronics, LED bulbs, toys, table fans, utensils and footwear—lacked mandatory BIS certification or Compulsory Registration Scheme marks.
- Sale and storage of such uncertified products violate Section 17 of the BIS Act, 2016 and carry penalties under Section 29(3) of up to three years’ imprisonment or fines of up to ten times the value of the goods.
- The operations relied on actionable intelligence and digital surveillance as part of a sustained nationwide drive against hazardous, non-certified consumer goods on e-commerce platforms.
- BIS encouraged consumers to download the BIS Care app to verify product certifications and report misuse of standard marks, and announced further legal and outreach steps to secure sector-wide compliance.
