Birmingham Mum Whose Migraines Hid Myeloma Enters Second Remission, Leads Awareness Push

Her story underscores how vague symptoms can mask myeloma, especially in communities with low awareness.

Overview

  • Simone Williamson, 42, learned in July 2025 that she was in remission for a second time after completing chemotherapy that restarted in early 2024.
  • She is due to begin maintenance chemotherapy and undergo a further stem cell transplant in October 2025 as part of ongoing treatment for the incurable blood cancer.
  • A severe migraine with stroke-like symptoms in March 2018 led to A&E tests and an April 2018 myeloma diagnosis after an initial suspicion of sarcoidosis.
  • By diagnosis, scans showed bone lesions in her ribs, pelvis and spine and soft spots in her skull, and she later endured severe peripheral neuropathy and two neck fractures linked to weakened bones.
  • Williamson is fronting the Knowledge is Power campaign during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, a Myeloma UK and Race Equality Foundation initiative co-produced by Black patients to boost awareness, encourage self-advocacy and promote blood and bone marrow donation.
