Birmingham Car-Theft Gang Sentenced After Filming Themselves in Stolen Vehicles

Phone data with social media videos linked the group to more than 40 thefts.

  • Waqar Khan, 25, received four-and-a-half years in prison and Harris Haroon, 20, got three years in a young offenders’ institution at Birmingham Crown Court.
  • Bilal Khan, 28, was given a two-year suspended sentence and Mohammed Akleem Ali, 18, received a 36‑month Youth Supervision Order with a restorative justice programme.
  • Police say the group stole more than 40 high-value cars around Birmingham and Solihull between January and July 2024 while sharing bragging videos on WhatsApp and Snapchat.
  • Investigators cited a tracked Toyota Hilux taken on 20 June 2024, CCTV of movements in Tyseley, and use of Waqar Khan’s BMW to scout and ferry stolen vehicles.
  • Officers reported the gang removed or replaced trackers, tried to extort victims to buy back cars, sold vehicles to buyers across the UK, and were arrested in July 2024 with phones and theft equipment seized.
