Bird Flu Outbreak Confirmed in Angus, Scotland

Authorities establish restricted zones to contain the first avian flu case in Scotland since 2023.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 has been detected at Over Ascreavie House in Kingoldrum, Kirriemuir, Angus.
A 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone have been implemented to restrict the movement of poultry, carcasses, eggs, and related materials.
This is Scotland's first confirmed bird flu case since the summer of 2023, when an outbreak led to the culling of 32,000 chickens on a farm in Aberdeenshire.
Public health officials assess the risk to the general public as very low, even for those with prolonged exposure to infected birds.
Poultry keepers are urged to remain vigilant and report any signs of disease to the Animal and Plant Health Agency immediately.
