Birbhum Police Seize 20,000 Gelatine Sticks, Arrest One in Nalhati Check

Investigators are tracing the Jharkhand route as quarry-linked smuggling remains the leading line of inquiry.

Overview

  • The pick-up van from Pakur, Jharkhand, was intercepted on the Sultanpur–Nalhati Road during a Tuesday night vehicle check.
  • Officers recovered 50 bags holding about 20,000 gelatine sticks that police say were procured and moved illegally.
  • The arrested man, identified as Narayan Ghosh of Birbhum, was produced in Rampurhat court and remanded to three days’ police custody.
  • SP Amandeep said a case has been opened, security checks have been tightened across sensitive spots, and the probe is being coordinated with Pakur police to trace the supply chain.
  • Officials cite repeated seizures tied to quarry operations in the Rampurhat area and note no evidence of terror links to date, recalling an earlier 2022 case later taken over by the NIA.
