BioWare Reaffirms Next Mass Effect Is in Active Development

Amazon’s companion series is taking shape after the original trilogy.

Overview

  • Executive producer Mike Gamble said the next Mass Effect is in development and that EA and BioWare remain committed to the franchise.
  • Gamble wrote that the team is currently heads-down and focused exclusively on Mass Effect, with features and romances in progress.
  • BioWare restructured earlier this year with layoffs, and general manager Gary McKay said the Mass Effect team did not require support from the full studio as some staff moved to other EA roles.
  • The Amazon TV adaptation’s writers room is active, the show will tell a new story set after the original trilogy, and Doug Jung serves as showrunner with Daniel Casey on the team; Gamble is an executive producer.
  • The update follows EA’s agreement to be acquired for $55 billion by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s PIF with Silver Lake and Affinity Partners, a development that has prompted public questions about future creative direction.
