Overview
- Biman confirmed on Sept. 23–24 that it signed a supplemental agreement with Boeing for 11 aircraft at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
- The follow-on order comprises five Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and six 737-8 single-aisle jets and brings Biman’s 2026 Boeing purchases to 25 aircraft when combined with the April deal.
- The April order was reported as a $3.7 billion purchase for 14 Boeing planes with deliveries scheduled between 2031 and 2035, while Boeing and Biman have not specified delivery timing for the September supplemental order.
- Senior Bangladeshi and U.S. officials attended the signing and Dhaka has publicly framed the purchases as a geoeconomic step to increase U.S. imports and ease a roughly $6 billion trade imbalance to lower tariff exposure on exporters.
- Airbus remains under consideration as a government technical committee reviews a separate proposal for 10 aircraft, and the new Boeing orders are expected to materially expand capacity and improve fuel efficiency for Biman over the coming years.
