• Debra Apostal died in her sleep early on June 20, just hours after her son’s set at the Charlotte Bluegrass Festival in Lansing, Michigan.
• Strings learned of his mother’s death in Lexington, drove to a nearby country church for comfort and then informed the Rupp Arena audience.
• He dedicated the emotional June 20 concert to his mother and urged fans to make noise in her honor instead of holding a moment of silence.
• Terry Barber, Strings’ father and fellow bluegrass musician, had joined him on stage at the Michigan festival earlier in the tour.
• Strings plans to continue touring with international dates in Australia and New Zealand in July followed by a U.S. leg beginning in August.
