Overview
- Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings announced Tuesday that Turnstiles – 50th Anniversary Edition will arrive on December 11, 2026, as a 4CD + Blu-ray package available for preorder with a four-per-customer limit.
- The set contains 67 audio tracks, 54 of which have never been commercially released, and maps the era across demos, abandoned studio sessions, a complete June 10, 1976 Bottom Line concert and the Billy Joel Tonight soundtrack.
- The Blu-ray presents the Billy Joel Tonight concert film newly transferred, edited and restored in HD and also includes rehearsal and production footage from the December 1976 taping.
- A Dolby Atmos mix of the original Turnstiles album is included, mixed by Bradshaw Leigh and mastered at Sterling Sound by Ted Jensen and Adam Grover, and a 40-page hardcover book features unseen photos with liner notes by David Fricke and John Jackson.
- Joel’s health context frames the release: he has been off the road this year for treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus and recently told fans on SiriusXM, “I’m OK,” as the archive package aims to preserve the creative period that led to his later breakthrough.
