  • After months of recovery, Hamlin returned to the field in August. His return to Cincinnati’s Paycor Stadium, where the incident occurred, was marked by reflection and renewed commitment to advocacy for heart health.
  • Hamlin disclosed that he suffered from commotio cordis, a rare heart condition caused by a blow to the chest. He has since become an advocate for placing more defibrillators in schools, stating that sudden cardiac arrest affects more than 7,000 kids under the age of 18 every year in the US.
  • During his return to Cincinnati, Hamlin announced his charitable foundation would award $1,000 scholarships to 10 students from underserved communities over the next three years. The scholarships are named after the medical professionals who saved his life.
  • Hamlin's foundation, Chasing M's, aims to give back to local youths and has attracted more than $9 million in contributions since his health crisis. The foundation has also distributed automated external defibrillators to community sports associations and promoted CPR training.
