Billie Jean King to Receive Historic Congressional Gold Medal

The tennis legend will be the first individual female athlete to earn the prestigious honor, pending President Biden's signature.

The House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation to award Billie Jean King the Congressional Gold Medal.
King, a tennis Hall of Famer and activist, has previously been honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
The bill, introduced on the 50th anniversary of King's 1973 'Battle of the Sexes' victory, has already passed unanimously in the Senate.
King is recognized for her advocacy in gender equality, including fighting for equal pay in tennis and supporting Title IX and LGBTQ+ rights.
Other athletes who have received the Congressional Gold Medal include Jackie Robinson, Roberto Clemente, and Arnold Palmer.
