Bill Simmons Floats Under-30 Team USA Blueprint for 2028, Led by Edwards and Haliburton

On The Zach Lowe Show, Simmons named a speculative starting five of Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Paolo Banchero, Jalen Williams and Cooper Flagg. He outlined an 11-player pool that also features Chet Holmgren, Evan Mobley, Trey Murphy III, Cason Wallace, Kon Knueppel and Darryn Peterson under a no-over-30 preference. Simmons praised Flagg as an ideal international fit who can defend multiple positions and enable small-ball lineups. He said he is assuming Haliburton returns to full health and projected him as the most reliable U.S. point guard by 2028. Explaining a surprise nod to Wallace as a developmental bet and potential secondary ball-handler, Simmons stressed these are media projections contingent on player growth and not USA Basketball selections.
