Bill Cosby Sued Again for Alleged 1970s Sexual Assault

Joan Tarshis files lawsuit under soon-to-expire New York’s Adult Survivors Act, alleging Cosby drugged and assaulted her on two occasions.

  • Joan Tarshis, a comedy writer and actress, has filed a lawsuit against Bill Cosby for alleged sexual assault incidents in the early 1970s.
  • The lawsuit was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, a law set to expire next week that allows survivors of sexual abuse a one-year window for claims outside the statute of limitations.
  • Tarshis alleges that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her on two occasions, once at the studio lot where the Cosby Show was filming and another time on the way to his show at the Westbury Music Fair.
  • Tarshis previously sued Cosby in Massachusetts and was among several accusers who sued Cosby for defamation after he called them liars.
  • Cosby, now 86, has been accused of rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment by over 60 women. He was convicted of the 2004 rape of Andrea Constand and sentenced to three to 10 years in prison, but his conviction was overturned on procedural grounds in 2021.
