Overview

  • The New Berlin businessman suspended his campaign on Sept. 26, 11 weeks after launching, saying he had no path to the Republican nomination.
  • Berrien’s decision came days after a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report detailed his Medium follows, including nonbinary performer Jiz Lee and sexuality-focused publications.
  • He denounced the coverage as cherry-picked opposition research and argued he was being targeted for “reading,” saying nothing he did was illegal or immoral.
  • With Berrien out, U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany and Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann remain the major Republican contenders for the 2026 governor’s race.
  • Some conservatives had already questioned his viability over past support for Nikki Haley and other positions, and Berrien said he will return to the private sector and use his Never Out Of The Fight PAC to back the GOP nominee.
