Bill Anderson, 87, Cancels Grand Ole Opry Appearance After ‘Freak Accident’

The Grand Ole Opry’s longest-serving member says he is on the mend after injuring his left leg in a fall at home.

  • Anderson explained the cancellation in an Aug. 18 post on his official website.
  • He said he twisted or tore ligaments or muscles in the back of his left leg while climbing into bed and fell, leaving him unable to walk.
  • The injury prompted him to cancel a Friday songwriting session with T. Graham Brown and a Sunday State Fair appearance for WSM in addition to the Opry show.
  • He described being in “excruciating pain” but reported feeling much better thanks to ice packs and pain medication.
  • He has not announced a timetable for resuming appearances.
