• The incident unfolded shortly after 1:30 AM on July 5 in an Indautxu flat when a 43-year-old man allegedly tried to strangle his 39-year-old partner until she lost consciousness.
• The suspect then armed himself with several kitchen knives intending to stab her before a flatmate stepped in to stop the attack.
• The flatmate alerted Ertzaintza, whose officers arrived within minutes and detained the man on suspicion of attempted homicide.
• Ertzaintza officers escorted the injured woman to a nearby hospital for treatment and activated victim support under gender-based violence protocols.
• The 43-year-old remains in custody and will be presented before a judge once police procedures are complete.
