Bihar’s First-Phase Turnout Reaches 64.66% After Voter-List Revision

Absolute ballots cast rose to about 2.43 crore despite a 4% cut in registered voters.

Overview

  • The Election Commission reported 64.66% polling across 121 seats, up 9.3 percentage points from the 2024 Lok Sabha vote and 8.8 points from the 2020 assembly vote in these constituencies.
  • The Special Intensive Revision removed roughly 37 lakh names statewide—about 4%—with more than 15 lakh deletions, or 3.9%, in the first-phase seats.
  • An estimated 2.43 crore people voted in these constituencies, higher than the roughly 2.15 crore who voted there in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
  • During voting in Lakhisarai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha’s convoy was hit with stones and cow dung, followed by an on-camera clash with RJD MLC Ajay Singh, who denied Sinha’s allegation that he had been drinking.
  • Police said they restored order and normal polling resumed, while parties and analysts continue to dispute the impact of the roll revision with results due on 14 November.
