Overview

• The nine-member Shree Janaki Janam Bhumi Punaura Dham Mandir Nyas Samiti was formed via a Law department gazette notification on June 26 with the Chief Secretary as chair and senior officials in key roles.
• Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveiled the temple’s final design on June 22, detailing a grand structure for the birthplace of Goddess Sita.
• The state cabinet had earlier approved ₹120 crore for comprehensive site development, including Sita-Vatika, Luv-Kush Vatika, a parikrama path, display kiosks, a cafeteria and children’s play zones.
• A private firm has been appointed as design consultant to expedite construction of the temple complex and associated infrastructure.
• Officials aim to complete the redevelopment by October-November 2025 to align the site’s inauguration with the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
