Bihar Cabinet Approves Marriage Hall Scheme, Pension Hikes and Subsidised Meals

Funded by the state exchequer, the new rollout begins July 1 with village wedding halls costed at ₹50 lakh each for economically weaker families with meal prices cut to ₹20 per plate.

Overview

  • Construction of 8,053 marriage halls under the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Mandap Yojana will be executed over five years at a total estimated cost of ₹4,026 crore.
  • The Cabinet increased social security pensions from ₹400 to ₹1,100 per month, benefiting around 1.11 crore elderly, disabled and widow recipients.
  • Didi Ki Rasoi canteens will expand to government hospitals, medical colleges and administrative offices offering meals at ₹20 per plate with the state covering the remaining cost.
  • A committee chaired by Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit will set criteria for dispensing ₹2 lakh to women entrepreneurs among 94 lakh poor families.
  • Financial empowerment measures include raising bank loan caps for Jeevika Self-Help Groups from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh at 7% interest, doubling MGNREGA limits for panchayats to ₹10 lakh and boosting elected officials’ allowances.
